Africa’s vanishing giants under the fading light. Just about a year ago, two subspecies of wild giraffes were added to the list of “critically endangered” species. Five of the nine subspecies of giraffes are declining in numbers, one is stable and only two are growing (though very slowly). This species is dying a silent death as a result of a loss of habitat, temporal variability in climate and overlooked conservation practices. They have already been declared extinct in 7 countries. This just shows that every single species on our planet is facing an uncertain future as a result of our practices and the only way to save them is ensure that large masses of wild lands remain free from human activity and each of us make lifestyle choices that are better for the planet. This can begin with small steps such as buying seasonal and local products, moving to green energy, using water and other natural resources judiciously
