Remains of

India’s Buddhist Monastery

These monuments record the genesis, efflorescence and decay of Buddhist art and architecture over a period of 1,300 years (3rd B.C. - 12th A.D.) almost covering the whole range of Indian Buddhism.

The monument seen here holds a big statue of the Buddha, and is also one of the only monuments where Hinduism and Buddhism come together, as evident from the construction and inscription.

The low lying buildings you see here were once a part of a school specialized for tapasya or meditation.
The monuments of #Sanchi are founN in the heart of the #Vindhyachal Hill Range in Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The Vindhyas are a discontinuous chain of hills with rich flora and fauna, many of which are indigenous to the region.
